This quote can be interpreted in many ways……but mostly negative.  Not this time.

I have long felt the strains of time management.  If I am being honest, at times, I lack organization.  Not like I show up to work half dressed and mismatched shoes, but simple time and task management.

With the explosion of custom orders in my furniture business, I have had to come up with some creative balancing of my time.   Currently, my waiting list for custom furniture and refinishing’s is long and extensive.  I have had up to almost a year for custom pieces, and 6-8 months on refinishing’s.  People will wait if they know that you put out a good product.  After all, I do not like to rush pieces and only want to give people a product that is beyond their expectations.

After many long hours, long weeks and long months, our company had to make some decisions.  This last September, our company hired Emma.  If you don’t have an Emma, you need one.  Emma is a great coater.  She inspects pieces for blemishes, defects, and bruises.  She cleans and preps pieces prior to coating.  Emma determines if prior finishes will affect paint coverage and will prime pieces on a need basis.  She will make small repairs when necessary.  Emma is meticulous when base coating pieces.  She understands what is necessary for each piece to leave our shop with a timeless finish.

And then another blessing happened in November.  After 27 years working in building materials, my husband Mark retired from his job.  It was a decision that was made to help our business grow.  Mark is a numbers guy.  He is one of those people that can solve math problems in his head.  That is not me.   He is also the shop cleaner, the errand runner, the dog walker, and the furniture “distresser” plus a million other things.  He can make a piece look naturally worn, chipped, scraped and dented.  Mark will take a brand-new piece that I have built and make it look 100 years old.   He is a keeper.

Maybe you were expecting me to give you a list of tips and secrets to time management success.  Nope.  Not this girl.

If you work hard, put all your efforts to good use, maybe, just maybe, you can get yourself an Emma or a Mark.

I did.  And it was only a matter of time before it happened.
