Farmhouse Paint on Shelf

I am never late to anything.  Never.  Well, almost never but I will tell you about that some other time.   I am chronically 20 minutes early to everything in my life.  Except social media.  I am a little late to the party.   So many people nowadays welcome everyone and everything into their lives by social media.  I am not alone.

Let’s talk paint.  Without the long drawn out story of how I got to where I am today, let me tell you about paint.  I know my way around paint.  Formerly a building material and lumber center manager, I know a thing or seventy about paint and sundries.

I am an artisan today, a mom, a wife, a contractor and a friend.   I fabricate, repurpose, recycle, upcycle, create, refinish and rebuild furniture and home décor.  It is my passion, and I get a check to do it.  It’s no longer a hobby.  So, lets get to it.

I have used so many products over the years that the personnel from the hazardous material roundup that happens twice a year here in our community know my husband and I by name.   If the product is inferior, does not conform to my standards, or is just a mediocre product with a pretty label, there is a good chance it is going to spend along time in my garage and then find its way to the hazardous material recycle.

So back to the paint subject.  I have used all of them.  All the brand names, the small names, the start-ups, the milks, the chalks, the minerals, the homemade.  All of them.  And trust me, there are A LOT of great ones on the market.

But today is the day I am starting a paint revolution.  I have been pondering it for a long while now.  I want my pieces to be timeless for customers.  I want quality pieces with quality finishes.  I have seen wonderful pieces with inferior finishes.  Maybe it’s the product, maybe it’s the tools, maybe it’s the finisher.

I recently switched to Farmhouse Paint.  This switch did not come lightly.  I wanted to use a product that I could stand behind.  I wanted it to be made in the USA, water based, lay down nicely and finish top notch.  I wanted it to beat the test of time.  After all, people usually hold onto their furnishings for a very long time.  I want someone who purchases something I have made or finished to feel like it is a piece that they could bestow to their children and their children’s children.

Farmhouse Paint, a company in Georgia, makes a chalk based paint, in 33 rich colors.  This is a no prep needed, no wax needed product.  They also offer a wide range of specialty finishes such as metallics, crackle, and crusty finishes.  They do offer an assortment of stains and sealers should you chose.

As a distributor of this line, I am most impressed by how it sands and finishes silky smooth with NO WAX.  It is unbelievable to me.  This makes me so happy.  So happy that I now stock this paint in two locations; The Rusty Porch at 2134 Main Street in Springfield Oregon and at Laurel Studios, 1732 Laurel Way in Florence Oregon by appointment.   And, I am not going to lie, I have a small hoard for myself.   For now, it’s a small start, but it’s the beginning, the beginning of my paint revolution.

Be happy in what you do.
